The bounty of the Indian River Lagoon has sustained our lifestyles, livelihoods, and lovely surroundings since before recorded history.  

Saturday, September 19th at 2 pm at the St. Lucie (Village) School, 2501 North Old Dixie Hwy, Fort Pierce, FL 34946, the community will gather to participate in “Our Lagoon…Our Legacy.” The program will focus on several ways we can contribute to the present and future health and wellbeing of our Lagoon.

Scholars, scientists and representatives from Docks for a Clean Lagoon, the University of Florida/IFAS Florida Sea Grant program, One Lagoon, and the Manatee Center will be the key presenters for the afternoon. Topics will include vertical oyster gardens for cleaner waters, as well as shoreline restoration and protections. Speakers will discuss how the efforts of individuals can impact the health of the lagoon. Interactive programs and projects will be included.

The program is sponsored by the Florida Remembered Society with funding from a Florida Humanities Florida250 public programs grant.  The Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program is providing funding for the program workshops.
