The program was hosted by the Florida Remembered Society as part of its series, “Feeding the American Spirit: 250 Years of Homegrown History,” and was funded through a Florida Humanities grant for America250 and Florida250 public programming.

The August 29th event celebrated St. Lucie Village’s past and present residents and their contributions to our humanities, heritage, and history. The afternoon included a dedication of the St. Lucie School’s 1910 school bell in honor of Jerry Vincent (1939–2023), a longtime teacher, historian, veteran, and Villager.

The program also featured a special exhibit and presentation of “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” sharing stories and artifacts about the many types of bells used throughout history.

The program complemented the “Red, White & FOOD” exhibition at the school, which features a timeline of Florida foodways, culture, and heritage. The exhibition is open to the public until April 2027 through a partnership of the Florida Remembered Society, Florida Humanities, the Jacarlene Foundation, the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street, The Florida Natural Growers Foundation, Neill, Marguis, Osking and Hale PLLC., and the Town of St. Lucie Village.
