“The Village People” not the band but the pioneers and personalities of St. Lucie Village’s history, will be the topic of an engaging event Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 4 p.m. at the St. Lucie School, 2501 North Old dixie Hwy, St. Lucie Village, Fl 34946.

The program is hosted by the Florida Remembered Society as part of a series of “Feeding the American Spirit:250 Years of Homegrown History” and is funded through a Florida Humanities grant for America250 and Florida 250 public programming.

The August 29^th event celebrates St. Lucie Village’s past and present residents’ contribution to our humanities, heritage, and history. The afternoon will include a dedication of the St Lucie School’s 1910 school bell to honor Jerry Vincent (1939-2023), a longtime teacher, historian and veteran, and Villager.

Also featured will be a special exhibit and program of “For Whom the Bell Tolls” with stories and artifacts about the many types of bells used throughout history.

The program complements the current “Red, White & FOOD” exhibition at the school which features a timeline of Florida foodways, culture, and heritage. This exhibition is open to the public and runs until April 2027 through a partnership of the Florida Remember Society, Florida Humanities, the Jacarlene Foundation, Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street, The Florida Natural Growers Foundation, Neill, Marguis, Osking and Hale PLLC., and the Town of St. Lucie Village.
